Why you Should Ignore Blogger Stats

For along time now I have seen big differences in the traffic stats that the blogger platform and my google
analytics account have been showing me. Lately for whatever reason. Maybe an increase in bot activity maybe across the net or just in the blogger network but they are way off now.

You might be thinking its an anomaly or I'm doing some Dark hat linking but not at all. I have several blogger accounts and they are all showing me the same activity. You might also be thinking that maybe i forgot to hit the "Don't track my own pageviews" tab. Unfortunetly that still won't help.

This led me to find out which stats I can trust and which are a waste of time.

The short answer ignore blogger stats and just follow google analytics.

Let me explain why. I did some digging around and found that  Blogger analytics only tracks pageviews whereas google analytics uses cookie tracking . The pageview tracking will show activity for search engine indexing, bot activity, and spammer activity.G-Analytics can track real users and they can distinguish a bot.

I know this will probably be very disappointing as I have seen/read about it occurring to many others on forums and other webmaster blogs. But now that you know the truth you can fix it.

Should The Main Page on Your Blog Be a Landing Page?

I have been testing many layouts in several of my blogs throughout the years. Some seem like clear winners but when put into other markets I end up with mixed results.

Currently I am starting to test using a Landing Page as Your main home page with a link/tab to your blog posts area.

I'm doing this so that it looks like a separate feature. Many ecommerce and affiliate sites I have seen do that. Some very success sites use do this as well. Usually people just stick with your normal blog default feature were your most current post always goes to the top and pushes older content down the page or onto another page.

The problem with this is if your niche is difficult to find post topics or you don't want to stay on the content tread mill forever. I was listening to a podcast with Peter Spaepen which is free by the way about Why not just write maybe 5-10 really high quality articles with your main message to market, put them into main categories tabs in link bar at top under header. These would be the hot topics your prospects would want to see or you can have them under tab heading like video, podcast or home page which will be your main landing page. Then have a separate blog tab.The blog area would be updated regularly when you feel like it.

The whole goal though is to use the blog area for traffic generation and then drive it from there to your main 5-10 pages.

Peter gave many examples but one that I know for sure works really well is Eben Pagan's "DoubleYourDating" site. If you get a chance check it out just to see the layout. In case you aren't familiar with it that site makes over 10 million a year Eben has claimed in the past.

I'll let you know how they convert in June.

SEO in the Post Apocalyptic Google Penguin and Panda

The era of link spamming is almost over. And the new era of social signals is being ushered in. Are you getting on the boat yet?

Just so you know I got hit hard in the serps last spring and even harder on older sites i own this Jan 2013. Good thing I saw this coming though. I was never really 100% sure since theres so much speculation online. I started moving away from link building and more towards paid traffic and social traffic last spring after I got nails in the serps. Overall the traffic to my collection of sites went down around 37%. Some as much as 90%.

To be fair some were more black hat experiments  with link building that did actually work. I guess Google caught up with them. But some were serious properties that I've put a lot of effort into. I have been crawling my way back since then.

what I'm doing now
You gotta mimic natural link building methods more so than ever before. The only links i pursue now are on sits directly related to my site. I start with the narrow and then get broader. Eg site about eggs then comment on sites about eggs salads, egg sandwich's for narrow and breakfast  as more broad. I'm following some of my IM idols John Robinson and Peter spaepen lead and doing more content curation and becoming more of an authoritative content curator rather than an a  mini site affiliate.

Other reasons why. Its what the biggest sites on the net are doing ie huffington post, mashable, every newspaper and magazine do it as well. They build loyal returning audiences rather than care what google wants.

Some of my newer  experiments don't use seo at all.(middle finger to google)

When it comes to SEO its all guestimation. No one noes 100% for sure and if they say so they are lying.

Its a marathon for seo now more than ever before not a race. I used to get pages to rank in top 10 within  few days now im lucky if it does within months. I'm sure there is some loophole to get around it. But it gets tiring always having to find that loophole and trying 50 diffent ways before you actually do find it. Its time for  a more time intelligent approach.

I focus on all other traffic sources but seo in the beginning. social signals and paid traffic then work on seo later

I tell myself daily you are a digital publisher not a marketer anymore. obvious marketing is a dirty word in googles eyes even though they say otherwise. I believe google is doing this because they want to maximize AdWords income since that's their primary source of income. they are trying to drive website owners to AdWords more than before.

Google is saying that users still complain about too much marketing in the serps and not enough helpful content. that may be true. I do believe in a lot of regards google is losing the war on content curation. Since that really is what they are doing.

I am still getting rankings for very long tail is still open for free web2.0's with little traffic or backlinks

I used to use spun content with article marketing for backlinks only. This concept is obsolete now. they are not being indexed by google anymore. article marketing can still work if you want to publish high quality content then get it syndicated on other sites or if someone reads the article likes it and goes to your site. But it is useless for backlinks alone. No more article spinners for me.

Paid traffic is still the best. The best bang for your buck for beginning and broke marketers is
1)email swipes
2)paid ad on related sites banners or paid reviews mentions in articles
3)ppc-you  need to be careful here. Make sure you really understand this before you invest your hard earned money. I would tell you to check out Perry marshals guide and glen Livingston's stuff. get on their lists and you'll gets tons of great free info.
4)cpm ads on social sites especially facebook
5)paid for articles from writers with big followings. then get them to promo the article they write to their followers. their followers will then go to our site. wa-la for 5$ you got an article and traffic

All free methods can be sped up by outsourcing. but if you have zero money and want the fastest method possible to get traffic then:

1)email banking_ you trade click on someones elses email list for clicks on your list
2)social media-doesn't take long to build up a following. there are tons of tools to help you with this
3)find highest traffic sites related to topics on your site and either get guest post there or comment on their articles. same with forums and videos

This all you really need. don't over complicate it

until next time

Top 4 Twitter Apps For Multiple Account Management

If you have been using twitter for marketing purposes and may have multiple accounts which is a reason twitter may shut down all your accounts since its against their TOS then you may be using a program or service to help you manage all those accounts.

Most marketers have been using tweetdeck for managing those multiple accounts but earlier this year twitter bought tweetdeck and within days I was hearing and experienced problems from the marketing community about accounts being closed or inactive. I experienced 3 accounts being shut down as a result and went searching for alternatives to tweetdeck. Here are some of my findings hoping they will allow you to navigate through the data noise.

1)Tweetdeck- used to be a marketers favorite app for marketing but now owned by twitter is no good anymore

2)Nambu- an app almost the same as tweetdeck but only for the Mac. Unfortunately no more updates will be available form them

3)Twhirl- Now my new favorite for handling multiple accounts. Has lots of great features. The biggest downside is that it doesn't allow to schedule posts and and doesn't log into facebook accounts. I've had problems logging in though quite often.

4)Seesmic- desktop-almost the same as tweetdeck but has no scheduled postings but allows multiple accounts for facebook and twitter

As usual I haven't included any affiliate links for those that think I'm just out to snag a commission. Let me know what you think and what's your favorite.

Review of 5 popular kw research tools

For all of these tools I tried using in broad, phrase and exact searches just to see how accurate the data is compared to google adwords which i have found in the past to be fairly accurate when it comes to traffic numbers. Some kws I have multiple rankings for and many number 1 and 2 positions which allows me to see how accurate google traffic stats are. For these reasons I use Google Adwords as my benchmark. I have not put any links in this article as I do not want people thinking i am doing this for affiliate sales. I'm just a hard working marketer sick of all the garbage and BS out there. I just want to set the record straight.

1.Keyword Elite2
Its garbage! It doesn't work half the time and when it does half the kws do not have the same data as google sometimes not even remotely close. the support is basically non-exsistent. All I gotta say is don't waste your time.

2.Keyword Country
The data is way off like keyword elite. Test the free trial and see for yourself at their website

3.Market Samurai
A little better than the first two but you still half to wade through many garbage kws with inaccurate data. Most data is incorrect when it comes to traffic stats. It still did find me a few good kws though. You can try free trial version with kw research tool and see for yourself

4.Micro Niche Finder
You need to get the newest version 5.7 but the data is the most accurate compared to google. The older ones like 4.6 version were not as accurate. It still is a little slow at gathering data but I normally multitask online anyways. The amount of time you lose by waiting for the program to run you will more than make up for in amount of time you would have to spend researching all those kws individually using adwords tool so I found it useful. For a 1 time payment and unlimited updates its a bargain that will save me countless hours in the future as long as it keeps working (cross my fingers as all software seems to eventually become obsolete or at least less useful). Unfortunately it doesn't have a free trial

5.Keyword Strategy Studio Pro
Great at finding unique kws that you probably won't think of that are starting to trend and great for generating keywords that have lots of commercial intent. It would be good for making keyword lists for google adwords. The biggest problem is that it doesn't do a competitive analysis  except showing google traffic stats from adwords tool. On that basis alone its not worth buying.
You can get a free trial of it and see for yourself

So overall I stuck with Micro Niche Finder. What i started doing is using Keyword Strategy Studio Pro to generate kw ideas then put them in micro niche finder to do the competitive analysis.

If you have any experiences with keyword research tools I would really like to hear you opinion on this. There are always new ones coming out and the old ones are always changing. Maybe you just had a different experience with these than me.
